Design Styles
Intarsia is the use of multiple wood species to create wood mosaic pictures. All colors are natural where each piece gets it's color and texture from the different types of wood.
Fretwork is the when a design is cut from a single piece of wood. Utilizing the positive and negative spaces, the image is made by cutting away pieces.
The overlay technique involves stacking multiple layers of fretwork. This can add color, depth and layers of detail.
Compound cutting yields three dimensional designs. Pieces are cut from multiple angles creating a piece that is best viewed in the round.
Pattern Design
If you are interested in commissioning your own unique artwork, we're here to help! The first step is to design a pattern. I will need a photo of the desired topic, an estimate for the desired size and a budget target (this indicates the level of detail possible). Pattern design will range from $25-$50 depending on the complexity. Payment for the design work is up front which secures your spot in my design queue. Design work typically takes around 2-4 weeks. After the initial design, you will have the opportunity to provide feedback and make changes if needed.
After we have an approved design, I will provide the project cost. To reserve a spot in the build queue I require a non-refundable 50% payment. I will notify you when I have reached your project in the build queue and provide regular updates throughout the build process.
